Keep in mind that they take a commission fee from your lessons to connect you with students from all over the world, provide video tools, and develop the learning materials to guide your teaching. Over time, the commission decreases depending on how many hours you’ve dedicated to the platform.

  • Average salary: ~$15-25 USD per hour; at least $550 a week

2. VIPKid

Beijing-based VIPKID is one of the best paid online teaching jobs if you are interested in teaching English online. All lesson planning, grading, and curriculum development are taken care of so you can concentrate on what you do best: inspiring your students. Contracts are for six months, during which you can work as much or as little as you’d like. And payments couldn’t be easier with direct bank deposits between the 10th and the 15th of each month.

  • Requirements: Some teaching or mentoring experience, a bachelor’s degree, and an appropriate laptop or desktop computer with a headset and camera. US and Canadian citizens only.
  • Average salary: ~$14-18 USD per hour, with additional incentives available.

3. Lingoda

Lingoda is unique in that you don’t have to be fluent in English to teach with this language instruction provider. Spanish, German, French, and English native speakers are all sought after by this European-based language school. All courses are comprised of small groups of adult students and you’re able to set your own hours. Teachers also receive 25% off any language course they offer.

  • Requirements: Two years of teaching experience, ESL teaching certificate, native speaker of the language you would like to teach, and ability to legally work as a freelancer.
  • Average salary: TBD; Hourly remuneration depends on your location, the language that you teach, as well as your qualifications.

4. SayABC

SayABC provides English-language learning for 5-12-year-old children in China. Headquartered in Beijing, the company offers one-to-four online classes taught by certified teachers.   • Requirements: Must reside in the US or Canada and either have a bachelor’s degree or currently be enrolled in a university program. Applicants must be able to teach 6+ hours weekly and have prior teaching experience.
  • Average salary: ~$16-20 USD per hour

6. DadaABC

DadaABC is a highly-rated Chinese online English education company. They partner with the American TESOL Institute, Pearson, Highlights, and National Geographic Learning. Teachers can expect to work individually with children between 4-16 years old. Classes are held every day and teachers are able to decide their own timetables.

  • Requirements: A bachelor’s degree and ability to work 10 hours per month.
  • Average salary: ~$17-18 USD per hour

7. Cambly

Cambly is a little different than other online teaching platforms. Instead of a formal curriculum, this is a platform where (for a fee) students from all over the world log-in via an app to chat with online tutors. If you want to get paid for speaking English, here’s your chance! Plus, you can work as little or as much as you want. Log-in whenever it’s convenient for you, or you can book a scheduled shift.

  • Requirements: Native English speakers only.
  • Average salary: $0.17 per minute (~$10.20 USD per hour), delivering your earnings every Monday via Paypal.

8. Italki

Italki is the world’s largest marketplace for online language teachers, which means whatever language you’re fluent in—from Japanese to German—you can sign up to work with Italki. This online teaching company is looking for native English speakers who are from the USA to teach Korean business students. You’ll be conducting conversational English classes with adult students via a softphone installed on a computer. Classes are one-on-one and between 10-20 minutes long. The curriculum is provided and you can work from anywhere in the world.

12. Palfish

Among the more flexible online teaching options, Palfish is an app-based platform that allows you to connect with students via your mobile device or tablet. Offering an immediate start with a minimum 3.5 hours weekly commitment, you can get paid for speaking English with adults and child learners. 14. iTutor

For qualified teachers, iTutor offers highly competitive wages with a pretty flexible schedule. However, you must be able to commit to one that contains 10 peak hours, four of which need to be during the weekend to accommodate ESL students that are based in China, Taiwan, and Japan. Contracts are one year in length and overtime is available.

  • Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or above, teaching certificate (TEFL/ CELTA), relevant teaching experience, and ability to commit to a schedule that contains 10 peak hours.
  • Average salary: ~$1,500-$3000 USD per month
